Melasma
a skin condition characterized by tan to brown spots of discoloration; usually occurs on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and jawline; associated with hormonal factors as well as increased sun exposure

a flat, defined area of skin that is different in color from the skin surrounding it, and less than 1 cm in diameter

brown pigment in skin, released by melanocytes; one of its functions is to protect DNA by blocking the amount of ultraviolet radiation penetrating deep into the skin
