This product provides broad-spectrum coverage from the harmful UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays shoot through your epidermis and spread out in the second layer of your skin. This second layer, called the dermis, is composed of collagen, elastin, blood vessels and nerve endings. Prolonged exposure of UVA damages this collagen and elastin. The size of the layer becomes smaller, and the epidermis (top layer) starts to droop. The few melanocyte cells that are scattered in the dermis either die, making a white spot, or become overactive, leaving a brown spot. In the end, overexposure to this ray can put you in the dermatologist’s office faster than any other aggravator.

UVB rays, the so-called “sunburn rays,” penetrate the epidermis, the top layer of the skin that is composed of keratinocytes (skin cells), basal cells and melanocyte cells. UVB rays stimulate the melanocyte cell to produce more melanin, giving you a tan. If you’re overexposed to UVB rays, the skin will protect itself by initiating an inflammatory reaction, giving you a sunburn.

Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer is a light-weight, fast-absorbing sunblock that lets you forget you’re wearing sunblock. I like wearing it on my face and neck because it’s oil free. You can cross off one of your New Year’s resolutions (protecting your skin from the sun!) and still enjoy the outdoors with this fantastic sunblock.
